News, Photos, and Student Reflections

In any discipline, translation has got to be the most important skill. If you can't communicate what you've learned, then there is no way for that learning to affect change in the world. The translation project was an exercise not only in understanding the course material, but in understanding my audience and being able to make the message relatable and impactful.

Translating course texts to people without backgrounds in Gender Studies taught me different ways to explain complex concepts succinctly while also acknowledging the nuances in the authors’ arguments. I learned how to better grapple with theory, praxis, and the uncomfortable space between. These new skills have since become invaluable to me both inside and outside the classroom, and I am extremely proud of the project’s resulting impacts on me, my group partners, and my community.
