What's a translation project?

Students often ask “What do we do with the information learned in this class? How do we talk about this stuff with people who aren’t in this class?” A translation project is a student’s chance to figure out how to address these questions. It is a project through which students convert (or “translate”) complicated, often theoretical, academic arguments and ideas into a different format. These projects are intended for an audience outside of our classroom— or, in other words, people who have not necessarily read the texts that have inspired the game. Students often comment that creating the project— and communicating with people from outside our class about course ideas— forces them to grapple with course materials in deeper ways. In so doing, students come to understand course content in new and differently complex ways.

Examples of these projects are available to view and download at our project database.
